What is a try-dive?

A try-dive is the easiest way to find out if diving is for you and to experience the fascinating underwater world of Zeeland. No hassle, no mandatory exercises — just a great experience.

The preparation starts at home. Using an online video or e-learning, you'll learn about diving and the most important things to keep in mind. On the day itself, we go through everything again and you'll receive more information — about the equipment, the dive itself and how to move in the water. After fitting your gear, we head to the dive site. Your equipment is set up entirely for you. Then you enter the water with an experienced dive instructor. One-on-one. So completely safe.

We dive at Kerkweg in Den Osse, one of the most popular dive sites in the province and ideal for try-dives and courses. We start shallow and take you into the water at your own pace — as fast or as slowly as you like.

Afterwards you'll receive a digital SSI certificate as a reminder of your first dive. Want to continue? Ask your instructor for more information about the beginner's course: SSI Open Water Diver.

Frequently asked questions

What does an introductory dive at Dive School de Grevelingen cost?

For the up to date price of an introduction dive, check our price list. The price includes one-to-one guidance by an experienced dive instructor, use of full diving equipment, online preparation and an open water dive in Lake Grevelingen. Afterwards, you will receive a digital SSI certificate.

Do I need diving experience for an introductory dive?

No, no experience is required. An introduction dive is specially developed for people who have never dived before. You will be guided step-by-step by an experienced instructor. However, swimming skills are required.

Is an introduction dive (try dive) safe?

Yes. The try-dive is one-on-one: just you and an experienced instructor. There is always someone right beside you. We start shallow and go as fast or as slowly as you feel comfortable with. Want to surface mid-dive? That is always possible.

How deep do you go during a try-dive?

During an introduction dive you go to a maximum depth of a couple of metres. We always start shallow and adjust the depth to your comfort level.

Where does the introductory dive take place?

The introduction dive takes place in Lake Grevelingen, at dive site Kerkweg in Den Osse. This is a calm saltwater lake with no tidal current, ideal for novice divers. Our regular dive site is thereby ideal for beginners and the facilities are excellent. Besides toilets, a changing room, (cold) outdoor shower, diving jetty and a filling station, there is also a cafeteria that is open every day during the season.

What do I need to bring for a try-dive?

Just bring your swimwear. All diving equipment is provided by Dive School de Grevelingen; you do not need to purchase anything.

From what age can I do a try-dive?

You must be at least 14 years old to do a try-dive at Dive School de Grevelingen. There must be no medical contraindications for participation in scuba diving activities.

Can I continue with a real dive course after an introductory dive?

Yes. After your introduction dive, you can immediately start the SSI Open Water Diver course, the official beginner's course that earns you an internationally recognised diving licence. Your instructor will be happy to give you more information after the dive. Ask about the possibilities!
